The line chart contrasts the number of male and female smokers per 1000 people between 1950 and 2020 at a 70-year interval. Overall while the number of male smokers decreased steadily over the course of time, the number of female smokers fluctuated during this period.
In 1950, 700 men per 1000 were smokers. This percentage gradually decreased with the passage of time, reducing to 400 smokers by the year 2000. The male smokers were 650, 620, 600, 500, 480, 450, and 400 in 1960, 70, 80, 90, 2000, 2010 and 2020 respectively. On the other hand, there were only 100 female smokers out of every 1000 people in 2050. The number of female smokers steadily stood up with the course of time. The numbers of female smokers were 220, 250, 300, and 350 in 1960, 70, 80, and 90 respectfully. However, the number of female smokers started declining over the next 20 years. The numbers reached 200 smokers per 1000 people by the year 2020. It was the same number seen in 1950.
