A satellite is an object that moves around another object. The satellite can be of two types: artificial and natural. Moon is our natural satellite because it moves around the earth. Though our planet has one satellite, one planet may have more than one satellite. For example, Jupiter and Saturn have 79 and 82 known satellites respectively. On the contrary, when human beings place any object in orbit, be it round the earth or moon or another planet to collect information or communication, it is called an artificial satellite. Now the question is: what is a satellite TV? Satellite TV refers to the system that delivers television programming to viewers by the usage of a satellite dish that receives retransmitted data from an artificial communications satellite's transponder. Satellite television has many advantages over cable television. Satellite television will allow you to watch TV from anywhere. Moreover, you can watch very clear images. Furthermore, you hardly face any interference because satellites, through radio waves, directly send signals to the antennas on the earth. Besides, satellite television offers different types of channels to watch, ranging from news to sports to documentaries to educative to cultural to entertaining. Therefore, it helps people broaden their views. However, satellite television has negative sides too. Many cultures are becoming victims of the cultural imperialism of developed countries. Through satellite television developed countries are tactically imposing their ways of life upon other developing or underdeveloped countries. When we watch heroes in movies eating burgers, pizzas, or soft drinks, we tend to eat and drink the same without thinking about their food values. Similarly, we give priority to their dresses over ours. Satellite television is also ruining the young generations by spending hours watching one channel after another without any better purpose. Broadcasting erotic pictures and videos, many satellite channels are misleading the youths. Watching violent programs, many young guys engage themselves in antisocial activities such as stealing, robbery, rape, murder, etc. Many young kids are developing an aversion to outdoor games and sports necessary for physical and mental growth. Therefore, it is high time we all became aware of the negative impacts of satellite television. Young children should not be allowed to watch satellite television without proper guidance. Otherwise, they may be addicted to it.
