The development of a country greatly depends on its communication system. If we look around the earth, we will see noticeable communication systems in developed countries. A good communication system can help the citizens of a country utilize their time in a productive way that can boost the economy of the country. It ensures easy and quick movement of its citizens and their goods. However, due to spending time in traffic, Bangladesh is losing $200 billion dollars per year. Realizing the importance of a good communication system, the existing government has taken several steps. Metro rail is one of the biggest ones. The construction of the metro rail route from Utara to Bangladesh Bank will be completed by 2023 in two phases. In fact, the first phase which is from Uttara to Agargaon is going to be inaugurated in December 2022. The next phase, Agargaon to Bangladesh Bank, will be completed next year. The length of the route will be 20 kilometers. There will be 16 stations from Motijheel to Uttara: Motijheel, Bangladesh Secretariat, Dhaka University, Shahbagh, Karwan Bazar, Farmgate, Bijoy Sarani, Agargaon, Shewrapara, Kazipara, Mirpur 10, Mirpur 11, Pallabi, Uttara south, Uttara Center, Uttara North. It is estimated that the completion will cost about TK 22000 crores ($2.5 billion). Japan International Cooperation Agency will pay about 75.4% (TK 16600 crores) as a loan at an interest rate of 0.01%. The Bangladesh government will finance the rest of the amount. This huge expenditure will not end in vain. The Metro rail will take only 37 minutes to travel from Motijheel to Uttara. The rail is also supposed to carry more than 60,000 passengers. The metro rail will run every 10 minutes. However, If the number of passengers increases, the interval between one train and another will be reduced. This faster movement and capability of carrying a significant number of passengers will surely reduce the pressure on the roads of Dhaka city. So, the metro rail project is expected to remove traffic congestion significantly. Moreover, as the metro rail will serve the citizens with a series of elevated tracks, the 16 stations will remain away not only from traffic congestion but also from pollution.
