Have you ever heard the name Bayazid Bostami? If not, you'll surely have heard his name. He used to live in a remote village. He loved his mother like an obedient boy. He was a good student too. In fact, he is considered an ideal son.
One night he was reading at his table, and his mother was sleeping in the next room. Suddenly, in the middle of the night, she woke up uttering, "Water! Water!" Bayazid rushed to his mother but found her sleeping.
He went to bring water from the pitcher, but there was not a single drop of water in it. Now he had to bring water from a well which was at the edge of the village. Moreover, the night was very deep and dark, and the villagers were supposed to be in deep sleep. It was a very silent and scary atmosphere.
However, Bayazid was determined to fetch water for his mother. "I have to collect water anyway", he talked to himself. "Mother can wake up at any time." His devotion and love for his mother removed all his fear and pushed him to go to the well with the pitcher to bring water.
Coming back home, he again found her in deep sleep. So, he didn't want to wake her. "I should wait beside her until she gets up", he ensured himself. "Disruption of sleep may tell upon her heath." So, he has to stand still holding a glass of water throughout the night. He did not sleep thinking his mother might wake up any time.
When Bayazid's mother woke up at dawn time, she saw her son standing beside her holding a glass of water. She immediately understood the matter. She became speechless and tears started rolling down her cheeks. Embracing her son, she started uttering words that came out of her love from the core of her heart: "One day you'll earn a name and fame; people will remember you with due respect, my dear son!"
