Greatness Lies in Sympathy

Long ago there was a soldier named Philip Sydney who was seriously wounded on a battlefield. The thigh bone of one of his legs was broken and so he could hardly move. Besides, he was very hungry and thirsty, but there was nobody around him who could take him to the camp which was about half a kilometer away.

"If I can't reach the camp, I'll surely die from starvation", he said to himself. Therefore, he started crawling toward the camp. As he approached the camp a soldier saw him and immediately brought him to the camp. Although some soldiers managed to give him first aid, there was no food in the camp except half a glass of water.

The moment he was about to drink water, he heard an old beggar shouting for water. "I've not eaten anything for two days", he said. "There is no food or water anywhere." Philip Sydney was moved by the beggar and gave the beggar his water. The beggar wished him well and left. "A little water may help me get rid of dehydration, but denying the beggar from the water will make me feel small forever", Sydney said to himself.
